Shen Yun Performing Arts delivered another sold-out performance at the David H. Koch Theater in New York City on March 26, showcasing the richness of traditional Chinese culture. Audience members said they were deeply impressed by the artistic excellence and beauty on display.
“Oh, amazing. They are real-life superheroes, able to dance like that,” said Nicole Prasisto, the account director at Devonshire.
“I think it’s absolutely beautiful, the costumes, the choreography, the formations of the dancers, the skills of the dancers, the joy of the dancers,“ said Sian Wade, the founder of Ballet Bristol. ”You can really see that they’re truly immersed in what they’re doing. And the spirituality is shining through as well. So it’s very emotional to see,” she said. “Beautiful extension and physique and the jumps. and the acrobatics. It’s very, very nice to see such a skill.”
“I think it’s very beautiful. The costumes are very colorful,” said Rispkiey Sitomer, the owner of a private jet company. “They’re very athletic. They’re very nimble. I like actually how when they twirl around, it almost looks like they’re in slow motion in the air. And I did enjoy that.”
Matt Castro, a certified public accountant, said, “The storytelling behind it was phenomenal, and the way that they do it without words and just through dance and music is incredible.”
Based in New York, Shen Yun’s mission is to revive 5,000 years of traditional Chinese culture and values that were destroyed by the Chinese Communist Party, which took power in 1949.
Benjamin Wagner, a commercial mortgage broker, said, “I love the fact that it focuses so much on the divine, because there is something divine about art. There is something that makes you, it makes you more upright when you’re in there. You feel a positive spirit. You can’t stop smiling, right? To see work like this, you start to realize, no, there is still something better. There are still better things to grasp towards. And you feel that when you’re there. And that’s something you actually only get when you’re there, you’re sitting in the seats.”
Bernadette Sebzda, the owner of a real estate management firm, said, “Something you just have to experience. You can’t just see it. You have to experience it. And it’s very uplifting. It’s, I would say, magical. There’s a divine spark that just animates the whole thing. And you just leave feeling very uplifted, very positive.”
Jeffrey Gingold, a rowing coach, said, “This is something that needs to be preserved and should never go away. It should be exposed to as many people as possible.”
“I think it’s an amazing mission, what you’re doing, and you’re bringing life, and showing this to the world. And more than New York here, there are so many people traveling from different countries, and they’re going to be able to see who you are and who you were. So it’s really amazing,” said Nelson Aguirre, a fashion producer.
“I’m really immersed in not just the technique, but the holistic elements of the dance. Because I always believe dance is not just the body, it’s the heart, the soul, the intellect. And that whole thing has to be present in a dancer. And when the dancer feels that, they give that to the audience, and then both feed off each other. So that’s what I’m gaining from this,” said Ms. Wade.
Mr. Aguirre said, “It’s something that anybody who comes, they will enjoy it. So I’m going to tell my friends and people that I know that they should come see you.”
“Go see it. Go see it. Go experience it. Have, bring your friends, bring your family. It’s absolutely wonderful,” said Ms. Sebzda.
Shen Yun will continue its performances in New York City through April 12.
