A motorcycle rider was killed in a collision in the afternoon on Aug. 12 on the Costa Mesa 55 Freeway in Costa Mesa.

The motorcycle collided with a sedan at 2:19 p.m. on the northbound Costa Mesa Freeway under the HOV Flyover to the San Diego 405 Freeway, according to the California Highway Patrol.

A witness told patrol officers the rider was splitting lanes at the time of the crash, meaning the rider was on the line between two lanes of vehicles and moving in the same direction.

The unnamed rider was pronounced dead at the scene.
