Sweaters with misprinted University of California–Irvine (UCI) wording appear to have been briefly sold at three Costco stores last week.

The sweaters misspelled Irvine as “Urvine.” However, after the stores noticed the mistake, the merchandise was pulled from the shelves, according to a UCI spokesperson.

“UCI was made aware of the defective merchandise over the weekend at three Costco stores in Orange County. The stores took immediate action to have them removed,” the UCI spokesperson told The Epoch Times in an emailed statement Sept. 3.

The spokesperson added that the incident is a “rare occurrence.”

The misprint was publicized on social media by UCI students, alumni, and others unaffiliated with the university.

UCI student Jabari McDonald posted the photos saying “if anyone knows how to get this stupid sweater, I am willing to go to LENGTHS.”

A UCI alumni, Lia Mendez, wrote on Twitter, “As an alum with zero school swag, I strangely – desperately – want one of these misprinted #UCIrvine shirts.”

Costco did not respond to a request for comment.
