On March 4, Shen Yun Performing Arts took audiences at the Steven Tanger Center for the Performing Arts in Greensboro, North Carolina, on a journey through 5,000 years of Chinese civilization. Shen Yun’s mission is to revive the rich cultural heritage and traditional values from China before communism.
Denice Staley, a business owner, said, “You really feel uplifted when you leave. You feel like you’ve been a part of it, and you just feel so uplifted and happy when you leave the show.”
“Energized, hopeful for the Chinese culture, preserving their legacy, to keep this moving, to keep it going,” said North Carolina State Representative Kanika Brown.
Accompanied by a live orchestra, Shen Yun seamlessly integrates traditional Chinese instruments with Western instruments, creating a unique and harmonious sound.
“I think I recognized erhu in there at one point. So that was really great, and I’m listening for French horns and other types of instruments. I love the music, it’s really great,” said Corina van de Pol, a professor and associate dean.
“I really enjoy the music, the mixture of the Western instruments with the Chinese instruments, and it was just a beautiful blend of sound. I like the stories told through the folk music, and then all the history, going back thousands of years, that was impressive,” said Julie Hunter, a music teacher.
Shen Yun simultaneously tours the world with eight different companies. Each season, it presents an entirely new program featuring original dance, music, costumes, and backdrops. Audience members had high praise for the performers.
Ms. Staley said, “I say keep up the wonderful work. I think it’s amazing. You’re talented. There’s no way any of us could do what you’re doing, but I think it is truly telling a story, and we all feel it, and we’re so thankful to be a part of it.”
“I really liked the entertaining and humorous aspects of the performance, but I think seeing the Manchurian dancing on the high shoes and just that sort of elegance was really fantastic,” said Ms. van de Pol.
Ms. Hunter said, “I would praise them, they’re so talented, and just to keep going at it and spreading their talents, and know that they are being seen.”
Ms. Brown said, “It was amazing, breathtaking. The choreography was impeccable, it was outstanding, well done. I’m just speechless, that’s all I can say, just full.”
Shen Yun will be performing at the Koger Center for the Arts in Columbia, South Carolina, on March 10 and 11.
