California State Controller Malia Cohen reported an employee with the Disbursements Bureau was arrested April 12 on multiple felony charges, according to Fox News.

In a statement, Cohen said a search warrant was served by the California Highway Patrol’s Office of Protective Intelligence for Miguel Espinosa. The search “resulted in the recovery of property that might otherwise have been lost,” said Cohen.

The action was taken because of an ongoing investigation by Cohen’s office, which led to Espinosa’s arrest. He has been fired from his position, said Cohen on Wednesday.

Espinosa was booked into a Sacramento County jail without the possibility of bail. He is charged with five felony counts of grand theft and five felony counts of buying or receiving stolen property, reported Fox.

The Disbursement Bureau, a division of the California State Treasurer’s Office, is responsible for tracking state funds and assets that are allocated and disbursed by the state.
