Actor and former California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger marked his 78th birthday on July 30 with a workout, reaffirming his longstanding commitment to health and fitness.
In a video posted to his Instagram account, Schwarzenegger was seen riding a bicycle, and expressed plans to lift weights and enjoy a meal as part of his birthday routine.
“Ah, well, today is my birthday. I am 78. I mean, it’s not an exciting day,” he said in the video. “I have to say that because a round number like 75 or 80 is much better, much spicier, but nevertheless, here we are.
“Driving around, bicycling, getting my fitness workout done, and then I’m gonna lift some weights and I’m gonna eat some good food and all those kinds of things. Then tonight we’re going to celebrate,” he added.
The seven-time Mr. Olympia and bodybuilding icon also thanked supporters and members of his health-focused platform, Arnold’s Pump Club, for their messages.
“Thank you very much for all the happy birthday wishes. For all you members of the Pump Club, you guys have been terrific. I love you and let’s continue on working to get better,” he said.
Family members also acknowledged the milestone on social media. His daughter, Katherine Schwarzenegger, posted a series of photos, including a childhood image of the two horseback riding. “Happy birthday daddy! King opa! We love you,” she wrote.
The actor’s dedication to fitness has continued in both his public and personal life, and he frequently promotes regular exercise through his media channels. His most recent on-screen appearance was in the second season of “FUBAR,” a Netflix action-comedy series. He is also set to return to theaters later this year in “The Man With the Bag,” a holiday-themed film scheduled for release on Oct. 3.
Schwarzenegger rose to global fame in the 1970s as a professional bodybuilder before transitioning into a successful Hollywood acting career. He gained international recognition as an action star through blockbuster roles in 1982’s “Conan the Barbarian,” “The Terminator” franchise, 1987’s “Predator,” and 1990’s “Total Recall.”
In 2003, he became the 38th governor of California in a historic recall election and was reelected in 2006, serving until 2011. He has remained active as a producer, speaker, and public advocate on issues ranging from physical health to political reform.
Schwarzenegger shares daughters Katherine, 35, and Christina, 33, and sons Patrick, 31, and Christopher, 27, with former wife Maria Shriver. He also has a son, Joseph Baena, 27, from a separate relationship.
